5 New Year Career resolutions

New Year Career Resolutions

1. Update your CV

Make sure your CV is up to date! When was the last time you actually read through your CV and reviewd all the information ? Perhaps your contact details or address has changed ? Or you have recently completed a course ? Go through your CV and make sure that employers can find you, have the latest information about your skills and ambitions and most importantly, can contact you.

As a jobseeker, you may register your Register your CV free. We have thousands of registered employer accounts who do not actively post online job vacancies but do search job seeker CVs and contact them directly.

2. Social Media

Yes, you thought it was fun running naked along the beach over the festive period and posting the pictures, but it’s not a good look for finding a job! You need to make sure your online presence (Facebook,Twitter,LinkedIn,Instagram) is also as good and as professional as it can be. Employers and recruiters will almost always check out your social media channels before giving you an interview. Make sure it’s a nice result for them!

3. Professional Social Networking

Increase your visibility on social media platforms. They give employers a platform to find out more about who you are and what you’re doing. More and more recruiters are turning to social media as a recruitment tool, so make sure you are out there, visible, searchable and hireable! Who knows, you might even end up with a job that isn’t advertised.

4. Check your skills or Skill Up

Find out whether you’re as skilled as you think you are! Some industries require professionals to keep up to date with call current standards. Does your profession require you to be part of any regulating authority that needs an annual registration fee ? Make sure also that your Qualifications are up to date with the latest regulations or technology for example. Maybe you need a refresher course on something, you simply may have been overtaken by events and forgotten. Finding out what the next level of skills are that you need , and plotting a course to acquire them, will give you the positive lift you need to find a better job or apply for a better position!

5. Don’t give up

Don’t let yesterday failures dictate your future! Don’t let them bring you down. Don’t let life’s little obstacles keep you from trying. Don’t let your fears keep you from dreaming. Don’t give up for any reason, believe in yourself ! Your old CV soon becomes out of date and gets buried as new CVs go to the top of the pile when employers come searching, so follow up and keep updating your information. Just because you didn’t get hired previously doesn’t mean you won’t have a chance the next time around !

Good luck, we hope this helped you. If it did then please feel free to share with others that may benefit from this advice.
