Reasons you did not make the job shortlist

You have applied for a number of job vacancies but never seem to get shortlisted. Here are some reasons why that may be happening.

Unprofessional or no cover letter

Employers want to see a cover letter that will give them and overview of your work experience. It must be written professionally. When creating your online CV , do not leave this blank. Provide a brief and professional written cover letter. Outline your experience, accomplishments and overview of who you are. This is the employers first perception of you, and if they are interested in what your cover letter says they are sure to review your CV. Chances are that if you do not provide a cover letter, employers will ignore your application.

Incomplete CV

Submit your cv online and complete all fields and provide as much information as possible. this is the first impression for the prospective employer and if your cv is precise and professional, chances are you will be shortlisted. Gaps in your CV

Explain the gaps in your CV. Some employers will read into long gaps between jobs and think that there might be something wrong with a candidate, they may not see it as just time out. If you want the job, you will need to convince the interviewer and make them feel comfortable about those gaps in your resume. Include these reasons in your covering letter.

Not experienced

Be realistic! If you do not have the qualifications or experience there is no way a company can hire you. If you lack experience find some volunteer work or look for learnershsips. With these programs you can gain experience and it will also show the prospective employer that you are willing to put in the effort.
