Music Intern

Main purpose of the role:
We are looking for an energetic and self-motivated music and programming intern to join TRACE Southern Africa. Music interns are crucial to the good functioning of the music programming team.

To provide assistance to the talent and programming managers including the Head of Programming in daily tasks

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with sourcing and selecting music video content for Trace Urban Southern Africa, Trace Africa and Trace Gospel
  • Provide assistance with allocating music to various different chart shows for the Trace channels
  • Maintain and Update the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) for all Trace channels
  • Assisting with the moderation of Trace shows
  • Fiche (product/file name) creations for all new music submitted
  • Assist with hits and lyrics for all channels
  • Provide feedback to artists on their music submissions
  • Assist with reception duties to relieve the office manager on request
  • Prepare all videos submitted for weekly music committee
  • Attend weekly music committee meetings
  • Provide assistance with the uploads of music videos on programming software
  • Adhoc administrative duties (may vary from day to day)

Candidate attributes:

  • Strong passion and knowledge for music is essential (Africa and international)
  • Knowledgeable about local scenes and artists
  • Should be self-driven and goal-orientated with the ability to work independently
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced and pressured environment with tight deadlines and turnaround times

Education and experience:

  • Degree in media/TV studies or studying towards a degree
  • Prior experience in the music industry (record label/radio)
  • Previous experience in media industry be added advantageous
  • Computer literate (PowerPoint, excel and etc.) is essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
