A professional aquamation facility is looking for a hands-on Mortuary & Facility Support Assistant to support the day-to-day running of its facility in Mossel Bay.

This is not a standard office cleaning position. The role includes maintaining specialised mortuary and aquamation areas, cleaning and disinfecting equipment, assisting with the movement and preparation of deceased persons, supporting collections and transfers, monitoring facility requirements and ensuring operational areas remain hygienic, organised and ready for use.

Comparable South African aquamation support positions include cleaning mortuary and aquamation areas, sanitising stretchers, monitoring cold-room temperatures, replenishing hygiene solutions and handling medical waste according to procedure.

Requirements

Grade 10–12 / Matric preferred

Previous experience in a mortuary, funeral home, healthcare facility, hospital, clinic, laboratory, industrial cleaning or similar hygiene-controlled environment advantageous

Previous professional cleaning, facility support or general operational experience

Must be comfortable working around deceased persons and within mortuary environments

Knowledge of cleaning, sanitation and disinfection procedures

Understanding of safe handling and use of cleaning chemicals and disinfectants

Ability to follow hygiene, infection-control and health and safety procedures

Physically fit and able to assist with lifting, moving and transferring deceased persons and equipment

Able to complete basic checklists, logs and facility records

Valid driver’s licence highly advantageous

Previous experience driving company vehicles or assisting with collections/transfers advantageous

Able to follow instructions and established SOPs accurately

Good spoken and written English

Willing to receive training specific to aquamation and mortuary operations

Duties

Clean and disinfect mortuary, aquamation and operational areas

Clean and sanitise stretchers, equipment, work surfaces and preparation areas

Assist the operations team with the respectful movement and handling of deceased persons

Assist with receiving deceased persons and preparing operational areas

Assist with collections and transfers when required

Monitor and record cold-room or facility temperatures where applicable

Prepare and replenish cleaning and hygiene supplies

Assist with stock control of consumables, PPE and operational supplies

Handle waste and cleaning materials according to prescribed procedures

Maintain equipment, storage and working areas in a clean and organised condition

Complete cleaning schedules and basic operational checklists

Report maintenance, equipment, hygiene or stock issues promptly

Support the Aquamation & Mortuary Operations Officer with general facility duties
