ABOUT THE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT UNIT AT GENESIS:

The Business Development Unit (BDU) team at Genesis Analytics is primarily responsible for identifying and acquiring new work to ensure sustainable and safe growth within Genesis. The BDU actively seeks for new and exciting opportunities to ensure the Genesis pipeline remains healthy and strategic. The team leads the research and analysis of emerging market trends, manages the development of proposals, and leads engagements with Genesis key accounts.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

The Business Development Intern will get full exposure toGenesis and the global market, working closely with Genesis colleagues across all specialist practice areas. The person will lead the identification and assessment of relevant opportunities and provide strategic advice on the risks and viability of these opportunities.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Opportunity identification

  • Set up, track, and manage alerts on key platforms
  • Scan public sector portals; Bilateral and Multilateral institutions; other donor platforms and print media, post-forecast update responses
  • Capture information gathered internally on the Genesis Pipeline Management system
  • Communicate pipeline opportunities with the Practice areas and relevant functional teams

 

B. Pipeline forecasting 

  • Identify and track opportunities through business forecasts and build up an opportunity pipeline in line with Genesis’s strategy and approach

C. Monitor trends and provide analysis

  • Monitor and analyse development trends by target geography and clients as well as competitive analysis to inform Genesis’ strategic positioning

Other areas of support may include: supporting internal learning on pipeline management; providing analysis on Genesis bidding trends; support Genesis firm to correctly use the Genesis Pipeline Management system.

Requirements

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND PERSONAL COMPETENCIES:

Essential: 

  • Desire to start a career in consultancy, working across Africa and globally to unlock value
  • An undergraduate qualification in relevant subject matter areas including Development Studies, Social Development, PPE, International Relations, Political Science, Social Science, and International Affairs, as minimum qualifications
  • Exceptional research skills, including the ability to find answers by studying materials and sources available; and gather information, analyse, interpret and review it before providing a solution
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks while working in an organised and timely manner to meet deadlines
  • Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to quickly examine information in details and synthesize messages for a broad audience
  • Demonstrated proactiveness and capacity to take initiatives

Advantageous: 

  • An Honours degree in either one of the abovementioned qualifications
  • Knowledge of Google Suite
