Some of the most common job titles that fall under the Travel & Transportation sector include:
Airline pilot, co-pilot, first officer, captain
The pilot’s responsibilities include transporting passengers and cargo, determining the safest routes, analyzing flight plans and weather conditions, calculating fuel, and inspecting operation systems and navigation equipment.
Airport ground staff
Ground crew or ground staff work in the aviation industry where they are engaged in various roles at the airport. Ground staff ensures the safety and comfort of passengers, including checking in baggage, providing information, assisting disabled passengers, confirming reservations, and selling tickets.
Cabin crew – Flight attendant, air steward, air stewardess
A flight attendant is responsible for attending to the safety and comfort needs of passengers aboard a flight. Also referred to as a cabin attendant, they perform a range of tasks including demonstrating emergency procedures, directing passengers, and performing safety checks.
Cruise ship steward
The steward will attend to customer needs, assist wait staff, ensure all stations are well stocked, and assist in keeping all areas clean and sanitary. You will clean and put away dishes, clean floors and food preparation areas, refill supplies, wipe tables, and take out the trash.
Car rental agents
Car rental agents provide booking and reservation services to customers. These services include rental cars. They work with customers over the phone, in person, or via email and strive to provide excellent customer service.
Shuttle drivers
Shuttle drivers utilize company-issued vehicles to drive passengers between places. Shuttle drivers transport various groups, including tourists, school children, and elderly individuals.
The great thing about transport and travel sector is that it offers many entry-level job opportunities. For a recent graduate, this can help you get a job with no experience and as you gain experience you can work your way up to higher-level jobs. If for example, you are interested in a career as a flight attendant, you can start as a airline customer service agent and work your way from there to a head flight attendant.
