Jobs in the tourism industry
Some of the most common job titles that fall under the Tourism sector include:
Tour guide
Tour guides familiarize people with the history, functions, and customs of a particular region or establishment. Though customers typically include foreigners on vacation, virtually any person can attend a tour.
Tour Operator/Travel Agent
The purpose of a travel agent is to sell transportation and accommodation to individuals and groups planning trips. They provide advice on travel destinations, plan itineraries, and collect payments. These professionals are passionate about travel with an aptitude for sales and customer service.
Tourist information center assistant
Tourist information center assistant perform day-to-day administrative tasks in office environments, ranging from hospitality venues to tourism attractions. They schedule and confirm appointments, direct incoming calls, and welcome visitors. They offer information to visitors and take payments for any permits or gate entry fees. They may also be required to handle basic inquiries and sort mail.
Interpreter
Interpreters interpret verbal communication from one language to another, and act as mediums where language barriers exist. At times, Interpreters translate written communication from one language to another.
Tour bus driver
Tour bus drivers utilize company-issued vehicles to drive passengers between places. Tour bus drivers transport various groups, including tourists, school children, and elderly individuals.
The great thing about the tourism sector is that it offers many entry-level job opportunities. For a recent graduate, this can help you get a job with no experience and as you gain experience you can work your way up to higher-level jobs.
